Pleural Thickening

Previous exposure to asbestos can cause diffuse pleural thickening which causes breathlessness and a possible feeling of tightness across your chest. A scan or an x-ray of the lung area is the only way to diagnose if you have pleural thickening. An asbestos related disease such as diffuse pleural thickening takes many years to develop from the initial asbestos exposure which means that you may have worked with it in the 1950's and 1960's but only have started developing symptoms now.

Pleural thickening has similar symptoms to asbestosis but it is a different condition and it is only something that can be commented upon by somebody medically trained. It is helpful to have confirmation of your diagnosis before contacting us, however, if you cannot remember the terms used when visiting your consultant or doctor you should still contact us as we can find this out for you by contacting your doctor or consultant.

A diagnosis of pleural thickening or diffused pleural thickening means that it will cause symptoms and some reduction in lung capacity but it is a benign form of asbestos disease.

As well as a civil claim for pleural thickening benefits maybe available and we can advise you on these also.

Making a claim for Diffuse Pleural Thickening

We would recommend that you seek legal advice from us as soon as you receive a diagnosis of an asbestos related disease.

We will then take a statement from you as to your various employers throughout your career and where you have come into contact with asbestos. It is as important to rule out those employers who did not expose you to asbestos as well as take details of those who did.

Fentons have a friendly and supportive approach and our specialists dealing with these claims are always happy to explain any part of the process with you.

If you have a relative who has recently died and only since then have you ascertained that they had pleural thickening it is not too late for legal action and we would still advise you to get in touch with us.

Personal injury claims are only successful where it is held that the defending party was negligent. Asbestos was effectively outlawed in the 1980's but even before then it was well known and documented that exposure to asbestos caused illness. We receive a lot of enquiries from those recently diagnosed with pleural thickening, asbestosis and mesothelioma and in many of those claims we are able to obtain a judgement by the Court that the Defendants are liable to pay compensation.
