Pensioner appeals for witnesses

12th July 2014

The son of a pensioner who was left with a broken leg after being hit by a car on Boxing Day has issued an appeal for witnesses.

Grandfather Anthony Hollington, 69, was returning home from visiting his partner in hospital when he was struck by a green Volvo estate near Tweenaway Cross in Torquay.

The former postman suffered a double fracture to his right leg and head injuries before being taken by ambulance to Torbay Hospital.

His leg was so badly damaged it needed surgery to pin it together before he was eventually released from hospital after three nights to be placed under the care of his family.

His son Darren Hollington, 40, has now issued an appeal for witnesses in the hope of uncovering the details of the incident.

He said: “My father has been very shaken up by the incident. He had been visiting his partner who was in hospital after a nasty fall and was returning home when he was hit by a car.

“He has suffered a terrible double fracture to his leg and a very nasty head injury which means he cannot live on his own for the foreseeable future.

“Unfortunately he does not remember very much at all and we are now desperate to find out how this terrible incident happened and would appreciate any help from witnesses.”

Katy Heppenstall, personal injury lawyer with Slater & Gordon, representing Mr Hollington, said: “Mr Hollington has been deeply affected by this very traumatic incident suffering a serious leg injury which could affect his standard of living for the rest of his life.

“Obviously this is very traumatic for him and it is of great importance that we are able to piece together the moments of his accident so that we are able to establish the cause.”

Any witnesses to the incident have been urged to contact Katy Heppenstall on 0114 252 5612.
