Fentons Solicitors proud to receive Living Wage accreditation

5th June 2013

Fentons Solicitors LLP is proud to announce that it has received accreditation from the Living Wage Foundation as an employer committed to paying all staff a ‘living wage.’

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. Established ten years ago, the campaign has already lifted more than 10,000 people out of poverty, guaranteeing workers will receive a minimum of more than 20% above the minimum wage, rising to 38% more than minimum wage in London.

Kieran Maguire, senior partner at Fentons Solicitors LLP, said as the firm was already committed to paying the living wage to all staff, the accreditation process was very straightforward. “As one of the largest specialist personal injury firms in the country, we felt strongly that we should lend our support to the work of the Living Wage Foundation in its efforts to ensure everyone who does a fair day’s work receives a fair day’s pay - not just minimum wage, but a living wage,” he said.

“Operating from large offices in London and Manchester, we recruit a significant number of our staff from the local community. We see it as part of our responsibility to those communities to contribute to their economy by ensuring everyone we employ receives a living wage.

“Being an accredited Living Wage employer is also a way for us as a firm to demonstrate to all of our 300 colleagues – be they fee-earners, support staff, administrators, cleaners or management – that everyone’s contribution is not only vital to our success, but also massively valued.”

Kieran said he hoped that by lending its support to the Foundation, Fentons - which recently achieved Alternative Business Structure status so as to allow some of its non-lawyer management team to become shareholders – would also encourage other firms from within the legal sector and other businesses across the country to ensure they too are paying workers a living wage.

Rhys Moore, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, said: “The benefits the Living Wage brings to staff and business are clear. I welcome the leadership shown by Fentons Solicitors LLP on this important issue.”
