Legal 500 entry 2009
Fentons is one of the leading personal injury practices nationally, specialising in claimant work. Having opened new offices in Bloomsbury Square, London in 2005, the firm continues to increase its London presence. Fentons intends to relocate its Manchester contingent to a new city-centre location to allow for further expansion.
The firm
The firm continues to consolidate its position as the largest claimant personal injury department in the North West. Bridget Collier, the regional controller of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers in the North West, heads the industrial disease department in Manchester.
The firm appointed two new partners and eight new associates at the end of 2007. The firm was appointed as media representative to a number of charities in 2007 and regularly comments on issues concerning road safety and health and safety in the work place.
Fentons continues to boost its profile in serious and catastrophic injury work. The firm is now involved in over 500 cases with a quantum value in excess of six figures and has secured a number of seven-figure settlements over the last 12 months. The vast majority of Fentons fee-earners are qualified solicitors and the firm consolidated its reputation as an excellent employer by enjoying over 95% retention rates for staff across all departments and continuing with its policies of flexible working practices, profit share schemes and childcare vouchers.
Fentons completed its role as the secretariat to the Contaminated Blood Products Public Inquiry in the autumn of 2007. The findings of the inquiry will be published in the spring or early summer of 2008. Karl Tonks, a partner with the firm, continues his role on the national executive of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the firm remains active in pursuing the interests of injury and disease victims.
In 2007, the firm raised over £40,000 for BRAKE, the Spinal Injuries Association and Headway.
