The discovery of 'black box' flight recorders from Ethiopian Airlines flight 409 has led to reports that the cause of the tragedy might soon be known. The plane crashed into the Mediterranean sea shortly after take off on 25 January, killing all 90 people on board.
Stormy weather or sabotage had previously been cited in the aviation world as possible factors in the crash, which happened off the coast of Beirut. With work now underway to recover the flight recorders from the sea, there is hope that the wait for answers may soon be over.
Katherine Allen of Fentons Solicitors LLP, who represents passengers and their families following aviation incidents, said that locating the flight recorders was crucial to ensure that there is a full and complete investigation into the cause of the crash.
"The loss of life in circumstances such as these is tragic," said Katherine. "It is vital that bereaved relatives are provided with answers as to why their loved ones died.
"Identifying the cause of the crash will also ensure that any necessary steps can be taken to minimise the risk of further tragedies in similar circumstances."
