Fentons appointed as secretariat to public inquiry into supply of contaminated blood and blood products

15 June 2008

Fentons Solicitors LLP have been appointed as the official solicitors to the Independent Public Inquiry into the supply of Contaminated Blood and Blood Products, chaired by a former Solicitor General, The Rt Hon Lord Archer of Sandwell QC.

The Rt Hon Lord Morris of Manchester, as the architect of the Public Inquiry, announced on 19 February 2007, the need for a Public Inquiry into what Lord (Robert) Winston has described as 'the worst treatment disaster in the history of the NHS.' Of 4670 Haemophilia patients exposed to hepatitis C, 1243 were also exposed to HIV; and notwithstanding improvements in treatment for both viruses, only 2552 patients with Hepatitis C and just 361 with HIV are still alive.

People with the viruses live with multiple symptoms and pain on a daily basis. Their families have to live with the knowledge that the viruses may eventually claim the lives of their loved ones.

Fentons have an established history of representing clients in matters concerning health and safety, helping many thousands of claimants successfully achieve a just and proper settlement for their injuries where there has been negligence.

We warmly welcome this important independent Public Inquiry and are extremely proud to be able to assist all those involved.

The inquiry will sit and hear evidence in public, for further information please visit the website at www.archercbbp.com.
