Claims expected following Pleasure Beach accident

12 August 2009

Personal injury specialists Fentons Solicitors LLP expect a number of claims to follow the recent accident on the Big Dipper ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Police and safety experts are investigating the accident in which it is believed more than 20 people were injured, when two cars collided about 20ft off the ground.

Firefighters had to lower people from the ride on stretchers, and the injured were taken to hospital in Blackpool for treatment to neck, back and facial injuries, including whiplash and broken bones. A significant number of people were also described as "walking wounded".

The Health and Safety Executive sent an investigator to the scene as a full inquiry began.

Andrew Young, partner at Fentons Solicitors LLP, said the incident would undoubtedly lead to compensation claims.

"These people have undergone a terrifying ordeal, and some of the injuries appear to be quite serious," he said. "I would expect a number of those involved to pursue a claim for compensation."
