On Saturday 6th November Rex Lloyd attended an organised fireworks display at Wilburton Recreation Park. After only 10 minutes of watching the display Mr Lloyd was hit on the head by a falling item from the sky. Mr Lloyd is now pursuing a claim for personal injury.
Mr Lloyd maintains that the fireworks were being set off about 30 feet away from where he stood. He was stood in a group of five people when the item hit him on the head. The item was believed to be a detonator which was about the length of a spark with a metal plug on the end. Mr Lloyd maintains that it was still alight when it hit him and one of his friends had to stamp the sparks out when it had fallen to the ground.
Mr Lloyd was immediately aware that his head was bleeding. He was taken to hospital where the laceration was glued. The 36 year old is now pursuing a claim for compensation through Fentons Solicitors. Louise Plant is dealing with his claim. “Cases such as Mr Lloyds highlight the dangers of firework displays. It is my client’s case that the fireworks were let off without. It is my client’s case that the organisers of the display failed to take reasonable care to ensure that the fireworks did not explode directly above those attending the display.”
